Announcement
The Widows project has a variety of new products on sale. Kindly place your order with the ADP shop!
The widows project was last week devastated with the alarming statistical data of HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Kibera. 54 women from the community and 23 youths approached us for assistance and counselling. The women and the youth were counseled and confirmed their HIV status. This was a real challenge as hopeless gripped them after realising they are positive of the disease.
This presented an urgent need to set up a couseling office away from the school where they could access the counselling without being seen by the church members or the children. We got a space and now we need volunteers to help develop the office and do counseling. We need a lap top/desk top, printer, a table, television, video deck and twenty chairs.
We currenly have two part time volunteer counselors but the work is immense.
We therefore welcome on board counselors who could come and offer the services. We believe the number is going to increase and therefore we need manpower and resources.
Yesterday one youth sent the church congregation to tears when he confessed of his failed suicide attempt on Saturday the 13/9/2008 at night and as he talked he was so weak after overdosing himself in an attempt to kill himself due to hopeless and lost dreams.
Soccer Connection
On the first weekend of May, Dream Team volunteers camped out in front of an AYSO weekend tournament in Walnut, California. Jerseys, gear, and a grand total of 144 soccer balls were generously donated. The very next week, Spurgeon’s Academy informed Africa Dream Project that a soccer team will be launched for the boys and girls of the school.
Sports, and soccer in particular, help keep the children of Kibera healthy and away from negative influences present in the slum. For more information on AYSO, visit (http://soccer.org/home.aspx). We look forward to working with groups here in the US that share interests with the people of Kibera. A big thanks to AYSO and everyone who continues to help the next generation of Kenya.

So I ask you all to join me and let’s make this a reality… Let’s make the downtrodden Children ‘Dare to Dream’.
Special Recognition from the British Government
Special Recognition from the British Government.
After ADP’s extensive proposal to the British Consulate’s competition at the University of Southern California, called “Click for Change,” ADP received special recognition as one of three top projects using the internet as a medium for causing positive change.
ADP is focusing on uniting people around our world for the cause of empowering women and children in Africa through tangible programs. ADP partners directly with Kenyans in order to accomplish the objectives of building a world-class high school for children from Kibera Slum, Kenya and creating healthy livelihoods for women. The work to be done is vital. Literally, these are matters of life or death. ADP is using the exciting new technological resources to incite this positive change.

Upcoming: EXPERIENCE KIBERA
Get excited.

For the first time at USC, students, faculty, staff, and community members will be exposed to the harsh realities of one of Africa’s most impoverished slums, Kibera.
Description: A culturally themed, idea-promoting event that will bring together an eclectic mix of the USC community. Along with the purpose of exposing the shocking living conditions of the Kibera slum, the event will raise awareness of Africa Dream Project’s educational initiatives in the slum, educate guests on the impact of Micro-Enterprise, and extract wisdom and feedback from attendees on our projects future plans.
Core Events: Experience Kibera aims to educate attendees on the culture of Kenya and more specifically, the Kibera slum. A replica Kibera slum home will be on site. Several videos and documentaries of ADP’s presence in the slum will be screened, along with a video tour of the slum itself (as our group spent the summers of 2002, 2004 & 2007 in Kibera). In addition, USC faculty members will be speaking on issues regarding slum dwelling, Education, and Micro-Enterprise, live Kenyan music will be hosted, and traditional Kenyan food will be served. Group Think-Tank discussions will be held throughout the event, along with “feedback easels” displayed around the premise to gain insight on consumer preference of African goods promoted in our Micro-Enterprise projects.
Location: The corner of University & 30th St., just south of downtown Los Angeles located ½ mile from the USC campus.
Date of Event: Friday, May 2nd, 2008 from 8:30 PM – 12:00 PM
Attendees: The event will be promoted to the USC community (over 10,000 people) for a three week period prior to the event. The event has a current invite list of over 2,000 people involved in the USC community. The participants will mostly consist of student leaders, philanthropists, and academics involved in Africa, globalization, and microfinance.
Why This Event Is So Important: Attendees will leave the event with a solid knowledge of Kibera and the realities of slum-dwelling for almost 1 billion people on this earth. Africa Dream Project will gain crucial wisdom from attendees on our educational objectives. Lastly, the event will further connect crucial resources found here in the United States with those who most need them in Africa. This event will strongly and positively impact lives!
Southern California Business Film Festival

A few weeks ago we were asked to be the benefactor of the Southern California Business Film Festival, which was held this past weekend, March 7-9, at the University of Southern California.
They raised over $400, which was given directly to us. Additionally, we promoted the Widows Micro-Enterprise and received a $100 donation.
Thank you for the support! This support helps us to move forward in the production of Africa Dream Project’s online Shop in which micro-enterprise products and more will be featured and sold.
Thank you again as we work even harder to empower lives and eliminate poverty in Kibera Slum!
For more information about the Southern California Business Film Festival visit www.scbff.com.

University Students Painting for Change
The Theta Xi fraternity held a fundraising event at the University of Southern California on March 6. Students were encouraged to donate and paint on a large mural. In doing so, they would advance the cause of Africa Dream Project and create awareness about the problems plaguing the African continent.
Theta Xi is a proponent for positive change in our world and supports Africa Dream Project. Thank you Theta Xi for taking philanthropy to the level of real-life action. Such acts of charity do make a positive impact in the lives of many. Fight on for positive change!
11th Annual Black History Celebration
Pasadena, CA: 11th Annual Black History Celebration hosted bythe Pasadena Police Department, Pasadena Black MunicipalEmployees Association and the Pasadena Fire Department.
Africa Dream Project sincerely thanks all who were involved in this important event. The 11th Annual Black History Celebration supplied attendees with a greater awareness and appreciation of African influence in America. What’s more, the event allowed people to give to those who are desperately in need in Africa.
ADP was blessed with this chance to promote the Widows’ Project and accept donations for African artifacts, Dream Cards, and our “World-Changer” T-shirts. Every donation improves the quality of life for nearly 40 women in Kibera Slum, Kenya. Moreover, all donations advance the cause empowering children in Kibera to achieve their dreams and change our world for the better.
Thank you again city of Pasadena!
